POLICE are still hunting for a man who raped a woman in a Worcester alleyway.

The daylight attack, which has shocked the city, happened at 9.15am on Friday, May 18.

The woman was attacked in an alleyway in Ronkswood between Aconbury Close and Leopard Rise.

The crime came to light after the victim reported it to police the following Monday and, after it was made public, the Worcester News website has been contacted by people appalled that such a crime could happen in the city and offering their support to the victim.

Despite the fears, Inspector Jane Fitzpatrick said extra police officers were still in the area and working hard to reassure people living near the scene.

She said: "Extra patrols are still going to Ronkswood. They are reassurance patrols and to make sure there are people in the right area looking for the right description."

No e-fit has been released, but officers have issued a description of the man they are looking for. He is white, in his early 20s, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in tall and of thin build, with shoulder-length, greasy brown hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a grey T-shirt.

No arrests have been made but police have said they are working on new leads which came to light after officers returned to the area a week after the attack.
