A CHILLY and wet weekend put a damper on the bank holiday for many Worcestershire residents.

According to Worcester News weatherman Paul Damari temperatures across the county yesterday (Monday) were below average for this time of year.

"We just about got up to 10C (50F)," he said.

""It should be about 16C or 61F at this time of year really.

"It was a shame because after all the lovely weather in April, and sunny spells last week, it would have been great to have a bit of sunshine for the holiday.

"It is a cold north front that is bringing the showers in."

As the Worcester News reported yesterday, rain on Sunday put a halt to many events around the county but yesterday's slightly drier weather ensured that events including Evesham Asparagus Festival and Sports For All in Droitwich went ahead as planned.

Joe Ling, Droitwich area partnership manager and organiser of the Sports For All event, said: "The weather was a bit of a blow but the car park still filled up."

Mr Damari said today should see some sunshine with scattered showers, while Wednesday will be wet with another half an inch of rain, with the showers continuing for the rest of the week.

But he said temperatures could be up to mid 80s (29C) by mid-June.
