ELVIS is alive and living in Worcester.

Well, almost. Alex Markovic recently rediscovered his talent for impersonating the King and now, the 47-year-old kitchen porter is hoping to go all the way by taking part in a national Elvis competition.

Mr Markovic, who uses the stage name Alexy Galaxy, is auditioning for One Night Of Elvis at the Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham, on Saturday, June 2.

He is hoping to hip-swivel his way to the grand final and the chance to appear on stage in Memphis, USA.

"I just thought I'd go for it," he said.

"It's my last chance to try and make a career out of my singing.

"I'm nervous but I'll be able to get into character on the day of the performance."

During the 80s the father-of-two, of Greenhill, London Road, Worcester, would regularly don his denim jacket and blue suede shoes to perform as his hero, appearing on radio and on television. He was even offered a recording contract but, unfortunately, had to turn it down due to personal reasons.

One Night Of Elvis is being organised by the Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain, which this year celebrates its 50th birthday and commemorates the 30th anniversary of Elvis's death.

If Mr Markovic does not make it through these auditions, he can try again at other venues.
