AN Evesham climber escaped serious injury after falling from cliffs at a Herefordshire beauty spot.

The man, aged in his 60s, fell 25 feet (7.6 metres) from Symonds Yat Rock - an outcrop of rock and woodland near Ross-on-Wye. A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "The injuries were relatively minor.

"The biggest problem was getting him down the outcrop to a waiting ambulance. With the excellent assistance of the Coleford Mountain Rescue Team from Gloucestershire, ambulance crews were able to bring him through dense woodland and a 45-degree slope to safety.

"The whole operation took nearly three hours."

Paramedics were called to the scene at 5.30pm on Thursday. The man was taken to Hereford County Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
