A 37-YEAR-OLD man whose face was 'caved in' during an alleged sledgehammer attack in Worcester has spoken of his ordeal.
Hubert Locke, from Wych Road, Droitwich, had been at a friend's house in Dines Green when he claims he was hit with a sledgehammer and then a machete in Shakespeare Road.
He was rushed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with facial injuries and weeks later underwent four-and-a-half hours of surgery to reconstruct part of his face.
However Mr Locke has now voiced a series of concerns over his treatment, including claims he has not been called to have his stitches out, forcing him to begin removing them himself.
Mr Locke said: "I got hit with a sledgehammer in the face and also a machete in Dines Green.
"There was a man outside the car. I didn't see the other person. As I walk toward him I got hit with a sledgehammer. I got hit with a sledgehammer then a machete.
"When I got injured, they took me straight to the hospital - my face was caved in.
"I'm never scared of anything. I can handle pain."
Mr Locke went into surgery at Worcestershire Royal on Saturday, February 5 but says he was discharged the day after with only paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain relief.
He says the pain was "excruciating" and in the early hours of Monday morning an out-of-hours doctor was called to give him morphine.
"The pain was excruciating, and I can handle pain. I have never experienced that pain before," said Mr Locke, who says he has been left with a "dent" in his face following the surgery.
He currently has several stitches in his face, around the eye and eyebrow.
He continued: "I have a dent in my face now. It is diabolical what they have done in my face. I can only see out of one eye. It just weeps constantly. They just treated me bad.
"They haven't even sent me a follow-up to have my stitches out. I have started cutting some out."
A spokesperson for the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said: "We cannot comment on individual cases or treatment. However we are disappointed when standards of care and treatment do not meet the expectations of our patients.
"We understand in this case, the patient hasn't made a complaint to the hospital and it is difficult for us to comment without knowing the full facts.
"We’d strongly urge the patient to contact the department concerned regarding the removal of his stitches."
West Mercia Police has confirmed a 33-year-old man and a 29-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm following the incident in Shakespeare Road on Monday, January 18.
They have both been released on bail until Monday, February 29.
