THE new Mayor of Worcester, Stephen Inman, has set off for a visit to a French town liberated by Worcestershire soldiers during the Second World War.
Yesterday, Councillor Inman travelled to Vernon with his wife Carol and members of the Worcester Twinning Association.
Worcester is not twinned with Vernon because it is already twinned with another French town, Le Vesinet.
However, the town formed a friendship pact with the city last year, following the liberation of Vernon by the 1st Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment on August 27, 1944.
Coun Inman spent the earlier part of the week meeting people in Worcester.
On Monday, pupils of Claines CE Primary School, near Worcester, visited the mayor's parlour at the Guildhall with students from their partner school in Cuenca, Spain.
Yesterday, he was given a guided tour of the Commandery in Worcester and met children from the city's St George's CE Primary School, who were joined by pupils from their partner school in Toledo, Spain.
