A WOMAN has appeared in court charged with a series of offences related to the sale of counterfeit DVDs.

Fang Chen faced 10 charges against her at Worcester Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Chen, aged 31, of no fixed address, faces four charges under the Video Recordings Act 1984 and six under the Trade Marks Act 1994.

She is charged with six counts of supplying counterfeit DVDs, two charges of supplying unclassified DVDs and two charges of supplying DVDs that can only be sold at a licensed sex shop Chen, who speaks no English, appeared in court with a Mandarin interpreter and the case was adjourned until Wednesday, May 30, to give the prosecution time to establish whether there is a case against her.

She was remanded in custody until then. She is charged alongside Kehui Xue, aged 30, who faces four charges under the Video Recordings Act 1984 and seven under the Trade Marks Act 1994.

The Trade Marks Act deals with fake goods and the Video Recordings Act requires that all videos and DVDs are classified and labelled according to regulations.

Mr Xue, who appeared in Worcester Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 16, had his case committed to Worcester Crown Court.

It will be heard on Monday, June 18, and he will remain in custody until then.

The prosecution of both defendants is being led by Worcestershire County Council trading standards.
