NEW figures show that schools in Worcestershire have benefited from more than 400 new or improved classrooms and science labs in the past 10 years.

The county has also seen three schools rebuilt, 13 new sixth form blocks and 48 new or improved sports facilities.

The figures come from an audit of new and improved buildings in all local authorities, carried out for the first time by the Department for Education and Skills. The results are published in the department's Better Buildings, Better Design, Better Education document.

In Worcestershire there have been 315 new or improved classrooms in the past 10 years and 90 new or refurbished science laboratories. There has also been four new or refurbished assembly and/or dining halls, seven new or improved kitchens and servery areas and six new special educational needs (SEN) units developed in mainstream schools.

The county has also seen 184 temporary classrooms removed in the past 10 years.
