AN old face returned to a Worcestershire primary school having spent the past three years in Nigeria.

Jenny Cameron taught at Holy Redeemer Primary School, Pershore, for about three years before taking the plunge and moving to west Africa as part of the Voluntary Service Overseas project.

She has been teaching children and training teachers in Akwanga, Nigeria. She has been regularly e-mailing the school with reports of her experiences and is hoping to set up a new school in her adopted country.

Headteacher Hillary Rowlands said: "The children really enjoyed hearing about what Ms Cameron has been doing in Nigeria.

"She is mainly training teachers there but also teaching children and adults and said she has had a lot of success teaching them phonics, as they all want to speak English.

"Ms Cameron is also working with widows who don't have a lot of money by helping them to learn skills and set up their own businesses.

"The children have been raising money to go towards a new school."
