A SERIES of one-day events aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle began in Worcester today.

The themed events are taking place at Worcestershire Royal Hospital over the next six Thursdays. They will provide help and information through activities, competitions and one-to-one sessions.

Anyone attending will be able to enter their name into a draw to win a mountain bike.

Today's event focused on healthy eating and included food tasting and advice on diet and safe slimming.

Next Thursday the day will be dedicated to relieving stress and includes opportunities to try out hand, feet and head massages, advice and guidance on dealing with stress, and tai chi.

Forthcoming events will have the themes of keeping fit - including a walk in Nunnery Wood; sun safety advice and asthma awareness; achieving a healthy work/life balance including advice on childcare facilities for staff; elder care and flexible working and healthy environment day with advice on fire safety, health and safety at work, child car seats, crime prevention, recycling and domestic violence.

The final session will be dedicated to the heart and soul with free makeovers, diabetes checks, discounted travel, massage sessions, and the chance to try belly dancing.

The days have been organised by the hospital along with its PFI partners, Catalyst, ISS and Siemens and Worcester-shire Primary Care Trust. All events will be supported by the Worcestershire Smoking Advice Service.
