A MOTORCYCLIST was airlifted to hospital after receiving serious injuries in a collision with a car this morning.

The accident happened on the A44, at Stonebow Farm, near Drakes Broughton, at 7.20am.

Initial calls to West Midlands Ambulance Service's Emergency Operations Centre in Bransford suggested the accident was head-on' at speed and involved a car and motorbike.

An ambulance crew and the County Air Ambulance from the Strensham base attended the incident at just after 7.20am and were on scene for over an hour.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Ambulance crews treated a male in his 30s for serious arm, leg fractures and abdominal injuries. The casualty was conscious and was immobilised on a spinal board as a precaution, before being airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital for further assessment and treatment".

The A44 was blocked for over an hour, causing long tailbacks for motorists in the early morning rush hour.

Alec Mackie, spokesman for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, said one firecrew attended from Pershore to help make the vehicles safe and clear a fuel spillage in the road.
