A FORMER Kempsey schoolboy who has multiple sclerosis is planning the trek of a lifetime to raise money for charity.

Donovan Buffery, who lived in the Worcestershire village for 28 years and went to Kempsey Primary School, is planning a five-day trek to Peru in September in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Trust.

And his mum, Ann Nor-ton, who still lives in Kempsey, is organising a fund-raising event in the village to help his efforts.

She is putting on a 60s and 70s evening with a live band and bar at Kempsey school on Saturday, May 26, starting at 7.30pm.

She said: "The trek is a challenge Donovan has set himself and he wants to give something back to the trust to help with the research they are doing into developing new treatments.

"He's in remission at the moment and is well. We hope he does not have any relapses before the trek."

Mr Buffery has to raise £2,650 to take part in the trek. Mrs Norton said he had already collected £2,000 but she wanted to help him reach the full amount.

Tickets for the evening cost £5, from 01905 820401.
