A MALVERN teenager with "an entrenched alcohol problem" was found wandering the streets drunk and foaming at the mouth, a court was told.

Christopher Willis, aged 18, of Bluebell Close, kicked a car door four times and claimed he could hear voices in his heard after going on a drinking spree in April.

Willis also punched a glass telephone box three times because he was so drunk he could not make a phone call.

The teenager, who is already on a six-month supervision order for previous offences, appeared before Worcester magistrates charged with being drunk and disorderly in Dukes Meadow, off Pickersleigh Road, at 6.30pm on Saturday, April 14.

After previously pleading guilty, he was due to attend court on Monday, May 14, but failed to attend, so he was also charged with skipping bail.

Joe Barker, for the prosecution, told the court the kicks to the car door and the punches to the phone box were spotted by a witness, who called the police.

He said: "The witness called the police, and when they arrived the defendant started swearing at them before struggling when they tried to arrest him.

"Eventually he was taken away despite being non-compliant with the officers."

Miss Barker also said Willis has 21 previous convictions encompassing 33 offences, including several for being drunk and disorderly in public.

Dawn Cooper, for the defence, said: "This is a young man of 18 with an entrenched alcohol problem.

"Clearly, in order to prevent this happening again, he needs help. He tells me that he harmed himself a month ago and still has scars on his wrists. He suffers from a depressive illness.

"The time he self-harmed ties in with around the same time he was found drunk and disorderly in public."

Magistrates decided to give him a six-month conditional discharge for both offences, but ordered him to continue the supervision, which runs until September.
