SEVEN abandoned dogs have been rehomed thanks to Worcester News readers.

We previously reported how kennels used by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Worcester and Mid-Worcestershire branch were overflowing after a number of owners gave up their pets.

One dog with a bad skin condition was being held at Ambleside Veterinary Clinic, Tolladine Road, Tolladine, Worcester, because the RSPCA had nowhere to keep it. But, following the article, pet lovers from across Worcestershire helped find some of the dogs new homes.

However, one dog we featured, Jake, is still being looked after at Brookend Boarding Kennels in Stocks Lane, Leigh Sinton, near Malvern, along with five other dogs.

RSPCA volunteer Geraldine Haynes said: "We still have poor Jake, who was doubling up in the kennels with Sheba, a German shepherd, but he's really unhappy now because he's on his own again.

"We also have this pair of dogs we call the odd couple. The one is quite tall and thin and the other is a little Staffordshire cross and they are inseparable. They came in together and they curl up in bed together. They are well behaved, quiet and no problem at all."

Mrs Haynes said there are about 20 others on a waiting list. Anybody interested in providing a new home for a dog should contact Geraldine Haynes on 01886 822083.

All dogs are neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before they go out to new homes.
