ONE-way traffic lights operating on a busy bridge into Worcester have caused fewer problems than feared.

The lights were introduced at Powick Bridge today, and will operate for about six weeks.

Glen Connolly, junior manager of the Manor Farm pub, situated just before the bridge, said traffic appeared to have been flowing smoothly.

"We have not noticed any tailbacks," he said.

However, whether they will create rush hour chaos has yet to be seen.

The lights will cause delays for the 20,000 motorists who use the bridge over the river Teme daily - but they will not be able to get through at all in July, when the bridge will close for six weeks.

Worcestershire County Council said the current work, relocating gas and electricity services, will prepare it for the big refurbishment operation in the summer, when surface upgrade work will start.
