STUDENTS of University of Worcester joined forces with the city council this week to spruce up St. John’s over the festive period.

They joined local volunteers to collect eight bags of litter from streets in and around Hylton Road, Henwick Road and Oldbury Road.

Residents moved cars so that Worcester City Council could sweep the streets and pavements, and cut back shrubs. The county council staff also cleaned drains in the roads.

Worcester City Council leader Simon Geraghty, who joined in the litter pick, said: "One of the council’s top priorities is to ensure the city is clean, green and safe.

"This community clean-up is a great example of the city and county councils working together with the university to tidy up some key areas that are well used by the local community.

"Working with West Mercia Police and local residents, we managed to clear the streets of parked cars, which enabled a really thorough clean to be undertaken."

Pupils from Oldbury Park Primary School also joined forces with university students pick up litter in streets surrounding the school.
