YOUNG actors from Droitwich triumphed in their colourful production of much-loved musical Bugsy Malone.

After weeks of hard work in rehearsals, the Norbury Youth Theatre’s 25-strong cast of 13 to 18-year-olds delighted audiences with spectacular songs, costumes, dance routines and drama.

Paul Wood, director of the Norbury Youth Theatre, said: “The audiences all went away with smiles on their faces and the comments were absolutely great, which helped to make the show such a success.

"It is such a fun-packed show and I knew our young people would love doing it. It has been such fun."

However Mr Wood admitted it was not easy working out how to fill 63 parts with just 25 actors.

“It has been great fun – absolute chaos at times,” said the director, who has led the Youth Theatre for the past 25 years.

The Norbury’s production of Bugsy Malone was based on Alan Parker’s popular film set in 1920s America.

The show tells the story of gang warfare between Dandy Dan and Fat Sam Stacetto.

Taking on the lead role of Bugsy was 16-year-old Oli Cowlishaw, while Liv Wormald, 18, embodied the feisty, aspiring singer Blousey Brown.

Joining them was Kieran Blunt, 17, as crime boss Fat Sam, Josh New, 17, as rival gang leader Dandy Dan, Charlotte Hesk, 17, as Bugsy’s former girlfriend Tallulah and 15-year-old Katie Lawson as Fizzy.
