A THIRTY-five-year-old man has been taken to hospital with 'potentially life-threatening' head and pelvic injuries after being hit by a car near Kwik Fit, in City Walls Road.

West Midlands Ambulance attended the scene and reported the incident to police at 4.38pm yesterday.

The pedestrian was treated at the roadside while cordons were set up at the Sidbury end. There was also a road block at the junction of Friar Street and Union Street.

An ambulance crew and a paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle attended.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The pedestrian had head and pelvic injuries.

“He was immobilised at the scene before being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

Commuters were held up because of diverted traffic.

On Twitter, Dan Brown said: "Person hit by a car on City Walls Road causing all sorts traffic chaos."

West Mercia Police Duty Inspector Peter Kitosi-Isanga, said: "We do not yet know of the man's condition He was conscious and breathing as the police got there after being called by the ambulance service, however initial reports were that his injuries could be potentially life-threatening, " he said.

The driver of the car involved in the incident is said to be unhurt.

The road was re-opened at 6.34pm.
