A RABID bidding war has erupted among Help Georgie supporters for a date with an unwitting hunk.

Clare Gibbs, mum of three-year-old Georgie, posted a picture of her with Gareth Hall who donated signed goodies from the stars of DIY SOS to a fundraising auction in aid of her daughter.

Women on the #HelpGeorgie Facebook page began joking about bidding for a date with Mr Hall and, seeing a fun way to help raise some of the £60,000 needed to send her daughter to America, she twisted his arm into agreeing to be auctioned off for a date.

Mr Hall, from St John's, said he was embarrassed when he realised the attention the picture had caused but begrudgingly agreed to the Take Me Out auction because he wants to help Georgie have her life-changing operation.

Bids stand at £160 and the winner will be wined and dined at Salford Hall after Mr and Mrs Gibbs donated the dinner for two they had successfully bid on for a date night.

Mrs Gibbs said: "It was all kind of said in jest after I met Gareth on Friday and he handed over some DIY SOS goodies for Bid4Georgie as he had been helping on a build in Evesham.

"I put a picture on the HelpGeorgie Facebook page and some of my girlfriends were saying "Whose that?" and "He's hot" and jokingly bidding on dates with him and it started from there really.

"Two girls got in a bidding war and now we are up to £160.

"Everyone has been having a bit of a giggle about it.

"We are hoping they have a lovely date and a nice dinner which my husband Carl and I are enjoying a ready meal at home," she joked.

Worcester's most eligible bachelor, or so it would seem, said he was baffled by all the attention.

The painter and decorator, aged 37, said: "It gone a bit crazy and haywire.

"It is flattering but is also really embarrassing too.

"I'm quite a shy person but it is all good fun and I am always happy to help out Georgie and her family.

"I have a three-year-old daughter and you do think about if you had to go through something like that.

"It will be an informal date, I will be a gentleman and hopefully it will be a nice evening."
