ACTION is being taken to increase the amount of rubbish that is recycled.
Worcester City Council is emblazoning the side of its refuse vehicles with pictures of bathroom, kitchen and lounge items that can be recycled, in a bid to raise awareness of the issue and remind people what does not need to be sent straight to landfill.
Residents of the city are currently recycling 37 percent of their waste – but the council is keen to reduce the volume sent to landfill still further.
Councillor Andy Roberts, cabinet member for a Cleaner and Greener City, said: "Our aim with this campaign is to increase awareness of what items can be recycled locally – and to cut down on the number of recyclable items which are being placed in black bins.
"It’s particularly important to send this message out in the run-up to Christmas, when the volume of household refuse and recycling collected by Worcester City Council increases significantly.
"I hope this campaign will help to resolve common household disputes over which items can and can’t be recycled."
