OLDER residents of Bromsgrove have been invited to a Christmas get together with a difference this year.

A Christmas community morning has been arranged by Worcestershire County Council's Libraries and Learning Team, in partnership with Connect Bromsgrove and Age UK and is aimed at people aged over 50 - in particular those who may need a little extra support.

The event, on Friday, December 18 at Amphlett Hall, is an opportunity to learn about services to improve health, wellbeing and generally benefit quality of life.

An Age UK Bromsgrove spokesperson said: "We are pleased to be co-working with Connect and the Libraries and Learning Team to deliver an exciting event to showcase the achievements of our new cooking class, and give the opportunity to access many other activities and services at Amphlett Hall."

At the meeting there will also be the chance to learn more about the wide range of fun and educational courses on offer, and enrol on courses in such activities as cooking and archery.

Di Perry, Team Leader at Connect Bromsgrove, said: "The morning will be a great opportunity to promote local services and courses that are available to vulnerable adults aged 18 and above within the community."

Cllr Lucy Hodgson, Cabinet member with responsibility for localism and communities, said: "A recent Viewpoint survey showed Worcestershire to be one of the best places in the country for community cohesion, and with events such as this one at Amphlett Hall, it is easy to see why.

"We as a county should be extremely proud of the support given to our vulnerable individuals across Worcestershire, and we are delighted to be working in partnership with Age UK and Connect Bromsgrove to deliver this community morning."

Schools, churches, individuals, social workers, parents and carers, and social workers have all been invited, and local businesses have funded a raffle.

There will also be an opportunity for people to see the County Council's Enterprise Bus and learn more about the benefits it will bring to local communities across Worcestershire.

The Christmas community morning will run from 10.30am to 12noon on Friday, December 18 at Amphlett Hall, in Bromsgrove.
