A BOGUS caller dressed in a high-visibility jacket and claiming to work for Severn Trent Water tricked his way into an elderly woman's Worcester home.
The male offender checked water and electricity meters, said he had fixed a leaky pipe and then demanded £100 from the victim to cover an "insurance excess".
She refused and he left the address in an unknown direction.
The incident took place in Checketts Lane sometime between Saturday, November 21, and Saturday, December 5 - the victim cannot recall exactly when.
Severn Trent Water have confirmed that the man, who displayed some form of fake ID, does not work for them.
It is not clear if anything was stolen during the incident.
West Mercia Police are warning members of the public to be vigilant against bogus callers and urging people to report any suspicious activity.
