DROITWICH Christmas Market was launched this week by deputy mayor Roy Murphy - with a little help from the Norbury Theatre's colourful panto dame.

On Tuesday morning Cllr Murphy and Madame Dolores Lilly Chantilly Tres Jolie declared the Victoria Square-based market officially open.

With plenty of festive treats on offer, displayed in pretty log cabins, the market will run daily until Sunday, December 13, from 9am to 6pm.

Cllr Murphy said: "The weather was just perfect - bright sunshine and some very colourful stalls were being set up.

"I was backed up by Madame Dolores, she was quite a breath of fresh air wandering around the market!

"There was a good atmosphere, people were enjoying themselves.

"It brings people in and people seem to respond to the festive atmosphere, as we discovered at the lights switch on."

Madame Dolores, from the Norbury's Beauty and the Beast, said she was delighted to be invited by her old friend Roy to join him in launching the market.

She said: "I have already bought some Christmas presents from these very friendly local traders. And one of them has just bought me yet another delicious mulled wine."

This year's market, is the second hosted in Droitwich following the success of its inaugural year in 2014.

As well as a host of stalls selling Christmas gifts, there will be musical entertainment in the form of carols every day, plus activities for children.

And during the afternoon on Saturday, December 12 parking is free in Droitwich.

Beauty and The Beast will be at the Norbury Theatre from Friday, January 8 to Saturday, January 23 2016.
