A HIGH-flying aviation event has announced its chosen charities that will benefit from next year's Throckmorton Air Show.

The show, based at the former RAF Pershore site in Worcestershire, is being held on June 11, 2016, and is again set to feature wing walkers, aerobatic display teams and daredevil pilots to entertain the crowds.

Organisers of the show, which will be in its ninth year in 2016, have announced two charities will be supported this year - the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and the Midlands Air Ambulance.

It is hoped the figure raised from this year's event, £56,000, can again be achieved particularly as the show has grown in size and popularity.

Organisers will be also trying to avoid the problems that saw families attempting to reach this year's show getting stuck in queues for hours.

Air show organiser Samantha Jones has previously blamed the issue on ticketless fans turning up last minute and expecting to get in. People attending the 2016 event are being encouraged to purchase tickets in advance when they are made available online, at throckmortonairshow.co.uk.

Simon Footer, regional director at the RAF Benevolent Fund, said: “We are delighted Throckmorton Air Show has chosen to support the RAF Benevolent Fund.

"As the RAF’s leading welfare charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund spent nearly £19 million supporting 39,000 members of the RAF family last year alone. We could not do this without the generous support of events like this.”

Organiser Samantha Jones said: “It is an honour to support the RAF Benevolent Fund for 2016.

"Being ex-military I have seen first-hand what the fund has done, not only for our veterans but their families too.

“As a charity they help so many incredible causes. The fund’s recent grant to Alzheimer’s Society in support of veterans living with dementia is one very close to my heart.

“The way the fund helped RAF Regiment Cpl Stuart Robinson when he received devastating injuries while on patrol in Afghanistan is just one example of the amazing work they do. It is our pleasure to be a part of it.”
