Encourage good shrub growth
1. Consider how you plant a container-grown shrub. Matted roots on the surface of the soil should be teased out, the planting hole must be big enough for a generous helping of planting mixture (such as compost) which should be firmed down around the plant.2. Soak the roots of bare-rooted plants before planting if they are dry and spread the roots out in the planting hole.3. Check the light requirement before buying a new plant. If you put a sun-lover in dense shed it's not going to thrive and will soon become leggy with fewer blooms.
