POLICE swooped on three properties in Evesham and Pershore in a series of drugs busts.

Class A and B drugs were seized and one man was arrested during the dramatic operation on Tuesday morning (December 8).

Fifty wraps containing a white powder were discovered at a house in Newlands, Pershore, but a second drugs warrant in the town proved fruitless.

In Evesham cannabis bush and a powder - believed to be M-Cat - were bagged up as evidence and one man was arrested and taken away in handcuffs.

Sergeant Phil Stayte, of Evesham police station, said: “This was a positive result – every time we take drugs off the streets that is a success.

“I hope members of the public are reassured by our presence and can see that we are out protecting them and ensuring public safety.”

The raid on the flat in Port Street, Evesham, opposite The Regal Cinema and above the Full On Ink tattoo parlour, involved sniffer dogs and several specialist officers.

And the Evesham Journal was present to witness the action.

Police first marched down an alleyway to access Port Street without alerting potential suspects of the impending raid.

One policeman readied himself to smash down the flat’s black access door with a battering ram – but the door was unlocked and officers rushed in to execute the warrant.

Sniffer dogs were later called upon to search for drugs while the meticulous police even used a ladder to see if any illegal substances had been stashed or thrown out of a window onto a ledge.

One man, believed to be in his 30s, was arrested. He was heard laughing as police marched him out of the property to be dealt with at Worcester police station.

Sergeant Stayte said a “reasonable quantity” of drugs were seized but added it was unclear at this stage whether the amount was consistent with personal use or dealing.

Mobile phones, cash and other items useful to the ongoing investigation were also seized.

The raid, which involved officers from Warwickshire Police alongside those from Evesham, took place at 11.30am and was finished by 12.46pm.

An earlier drugs bust in Pershore uncovered 50 wraps of a white powder, which is believed to be a class A drug but has not yet been formally identified.

The two incidents are not being linked by police.
