THE SEARCH is on to find unsung heroes in Droitwich who deserve recognition for their selfless acts.

Wychavon District Council is asking people who know someone who has helped to make the area a better place to nominate them for a Community Recognition Award.

Whether a person has volunteered for a Wychavon charity, lent their support to coach young sports teams or simply helped out a neighbour in need – the council’s community development team wants to hear about it.

Tracy Grubb, community development officer at the council, said: “It’s brilliant that we are doing the Community Recognition Awards again this year.

“We rely on volunteers to make things happen, so it’s right that they should be recognised for all the time that they have put in to making Wychavon a better place to live and work.”

The awards, which will be announced at a glittering ceremony on Tuesday, March 15, next year, are open to the whole community.

They are aimed at recognising those who have volunteered, coached or helped others in the district a chance to gain well deserved recognition for their efforts in helping to make Wychavon a better place to live and work.

A selection of categories help to ensure each person is recognised for their specific work.

The categories a person can be nominated for are: Young Volunteer award, Volunteer award, Arts Recognition award, Sporting Hero award, Community Project award, Community Group award, Enabling Healthy Lives award and the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award.

Last year’s awards night was hugely popular with nominations for more than 40 people in the district flooding in.

Half of the awards up for grabs were presented to people from the Droitwich community, including the Lifetime Achievement award, Young Volunteer of the Year award, Sporting Hero award and the Arts Recognition award.

The 2014 Lifetime Achievement award went to Sylvia and Arthur Whittaker from Droitwich who were recognised for their outstanding voluntary work at St Richard’s Hospice.

To nominate the individual or organisation complete an application form and return it by Wednesday, February 10, 2016.

Application forms are available at wychavon.gov.uk/recognitionaward.
