HUNDREDS of twinkling fairy lights, numerous inflatable Father Christmases and a ten foot reindeer will delight families at a popular charity display in Rushwick.

It has taken three weekends to set up hundreds of decorations but the switch will finally be flicked on at the popular display in the gardens of 66 Christine Avenue on Saturday, December 12.

Mick and Norma Gale open up the back garden of their home every Christmas to raise money for Midlands Air Ambulance.

To really get into the Christmas spirit, guests at the switch on will also be able to enjoy mulled wine and mince pies.

The couple, who have named the event Santa's Garden, are hoping for a dry Christmas to help them top last year's donations of £580.

Mr Gale, aged 66, said: "It doesn't feel like five minutes since we were taking them back down again.

"It has taken us a few weekends but we are finally ready to switch on the lights.

"This year we have a couple of new lights but we have still got the old favorites and Rudolf the 10 foot reindeer who was a real hit last year.

"It is always really popular with people and a lot of people tell us that it really puts them in the mood for Christmas.

"In fact, I have had lots of people asking me when we are putting on the lights already this year.

"We're really looking forward to it."

The couple's son Adam and his partner Emily have created a new website for this year which can be found at santasgarden.co.uk as well as a Santa's Garden Facebook page which will be updated with news and whether there will be closures due to bad weather.

After Saturday, the garden will be open every night from 6pm to 10pm until Sunday, December 27.
