ABOUT 100 children and their parents were joined by the Mayor of Pershore Councillor Tony Rowley at the 'giant walk for road safety' held in partnership with the charity Brake in Pershore.

Participants from Holy Redeemer Catholic Primary School donned high-visibility jackets to take part in the challenge.

Brake is a national road safety that "exists to stop needless deaths on the road and care for families devastated by death or injury from road crashes".

Every year thousands of children from across the UK take part in the 'giant walk' project, which includes classroom lessons about road safety and finding out about the benefits of safe walking and cycling.

After the walk the mayor, community policemen, children from the school council, parents, governors and the headteacher "met together to think about making Pershore safer for all children as they walk to and from school".
