AN adventurous woman from Worcestershire who is vying to break an incredible rowing world record is aiming to get members of the public involved in the experience.

RAF sergeant Jane McIntosh is taking on the Atlantic Challenge 2016 with three other women from the military force, which will see her try to row from Gran Canaria to Barbados.

The current women's record for the 2,994-mile feat is 45 days, 15 hours and 26 minutes - but the foursome are hoping to break that as well as raise money for children charities Barnardo's and The Force's Children's Trust.

And now Miss McIntosh, of Martley, wants to get others involved in the fundraising through a nationwide indoor rowing event.

She said: “I would like to invite the people of Worcestershire – especially rowing clubs, fitness clubs or university, college or school teams - to be a part of this nationwide event which starts on Saturday, January 23.

“We would like to share our experience with you and hopefully inspire more of our young people to push themselves to the limit and achieve the perceived unachievable.

“All we are asking is for your winter training to be recorded and invite your friends and family to support your rowing and running with a little charity sponsorship.

“In return you will be part of a national event and have the chance for your team or club to be the fastest and awarded with the honour and a commemorative tankard for each member.”
