WORCESTER'S MP has been helping staff from the city's Citizen Advice Bureau (CAB) mark a significant anniversary.

The bureau first opened in June 1975, and has been serving the community ever since.

Last year its volunteers and employees helped solve various problems, giving out more than 22,000 pieces of advice.

The 40th anniversary of the CAB was celebrated at the organisation's annual general meeting held at Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Friday, (December 4).

The event was attended by Robin Walker who has championed the CAB throughout his time as an MP, including hosting an event in Parliament for staff and volunteers earlier this year.

He has also previously been named Parliamentarian of the year by Citizens Advice for his work on the Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee that pushed for better regulation of the payday loans industry and raising funds for free debt advice from a finance industry levy.

The event at the New Road-based ground celebrated the achievements of the organisation, honouring volunteers with more than 10 years’ service - who were presented with an award by the MP.

The Worcester MP said: "I was delighted to have been invited to the 40th anniversary of the Citizens Advice Bureau in Worcester, and I am honoured to have had the chance to spend time with some true servants of our community.

"As an MP who spends a lot of time taking up cases for my constituents I value their contribution highly in providing high quality free and impartial advice to those that need it most."
