DROITWICH residents are being urged to dig out their family's World War One memorabilia for a history project at the town's library.

On Tuesday morning a special World War One Coffee Morning will run at the Victoria Squared-based library for people to come and share their memories.

The event forms part of the library's Great Blackberry Pick project, which is attempting to create an archive of what was happening in Droitwich during World War One.

James Robertson, Droitwich Library Customer Advisor, said: "The whole idea behind it is to try and encourage people to bring their World War One memorabilia, local stories, letters they might have to link into our Great Blackberry Pick project.

"We have done a lot of work with the schools and now we are moving into more of a research stage of the project.

"We want to build up a local archive. We have already got access to local newspapers in the library and two of the school leant us their log books."

Tea, coffee, mince pies and Anzac Biscuits - a favourite among the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps during World War One - will be served on the day.

And along with sharing items, there will be an exhibition about the life of Vesta Tilley, the Worcester-born music hall star who played a major role in the recruitment of soldiers in World War One.

The event will run on Tuesday, December 8 from 10am to 11.30am.

A similar coffee morning will also be held next Tuesday at the same time.
