MAJOR works to replace the lift at Droitwich Library will get underway in the New Year.

The project is expected to start on Monday, January 18, with no lift access to the first floor during the six-week installation.

Although in this time the library's traditional silence will be broken, staff will work with contractors to minimise disruption to visitors.

Bev Orlowsky, Droitwich Library manager said: "I am pleased that this major repair work is scheduled for the new year. I would ask visitors to the library to bear with us for a few weeks as the work is carried out."

The Victoria Square-based library will remain open during the works and it is thought computers will be made available on the ground floor.

There may be some restrictions on material available for borrowing during these weeks but books and other items can be borrowed and returned as usual.

Works are expected to be complete by Saturday, March 12.
