A FATHER is calling on people to join a very special sporting event in support of the charity which cares for his 11-year-old son.

Worcester Warriors Charity Matchday is returning to Sixways for the sixth time on Sunday, January 3 to help raise funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice and its work caring for local life-limited and life-threatened children, young people and their families.

Dale Dyer, from Crowle, whose son Jack has cerebral palsy, hopes to see lots of people at the match to help families like his who rely on the charity’s services.

Mr Dyer said: “We’ve been using Acorns since the hospice on the Bath Road first opened ten years ago so I know first-hand the incredible work the charity’s staff and volunteers provide for families like ours.

“Jack’s condition means that he uses a wheelchair and needs care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"When he visits the hospice for short breaks, we can relax safe in the knowledge that he’s being looked after and stimulated, and it gives us as a family a chance to recharge the batteries and spend some quality time with each other.”

Warriors will go head-to-head with Harlequins at 3pm and the club has allocated a number of tickets at the exclusive Acorns rate of £28 which includes use of the Charity Lounge and a complimentary meal, with a proportion of each ticket sold going directly to Acorns.

Mr Dyer continued: “Acorns is an amazing place and is there for us in lots of different ways when we need them most.

"I’m hoping lots of people show their support at the Matchday and help make a real difference to families like mine.”

In keeping with tradition, Warriors will take to the field on the day wearing special limited-edition Matchday shirts designed by children at Acorns which will also be available to purchase from the Sixways store in the run-up to the event.

Acorns tickets for the Matchday will be sold on a first-come first-served basis, and can be purchased by contacting corporatefun@acorns.org.uk or 01564 825000.
