RIVER levels continue to rise in Worcester as the city battens down the hatches with the peak expected tomorrow.

The water is creeping up around South Quay, leaving the railings submerged but Brown’s restaurant is still open for business with all its flood defences in place.

Dave Throup, Environment Agency manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, tweeted photographs from inside the restaurant.

He said on Twitter: “Best view in the house! Brown's Restaurant #worcester surrounded by water but fully open. Unbelievable view!”

Flood defences were put up across Worcestershire on Thursday, including at New Street in Upton as water continues to pour down the river Severn following rain in Wales.

We have already reported how Hylton Road was closed for two hours on Thursday evening while pumps were installed by the Environment Agency.

There are flood alerts for the River Severn with flood warnings in place for the River Severn at Court Meadow, Kempsey and Callow End.

At 11.50am the level at the Kempsey Yacht Club Gauge was 5.84 metres and rising with a peak of between 5.7 and 6.2 metres expected tomorrow (Saturday)morning.

The level at the Saxons Lode Gauge was 3.94 metres and rising. A peak level of between 4.1 and 4.6 metres is expected to occur tomorrow evening.
