THERE are just days to go until Droitwich town councillors will consider which community project should be granted thousands of pounds worth of funding.

Four schemes have been put forward to benefit from nearly £70,000 generated by the New Homes Bonus (NHB) grant scheme.

Wychavon District Council allocated the authority £69,706 of NHB funding to give to worthy causes in the area and will make the final decision on where they money goes by March 2016.

But on Monday, December 7, Droitwich Town Council could make its recommendation to the District Council over which project it feels is worthy of the funding.

The projects vying for the money are: Shepherd’s Hill Play Park, Salwarpe Pavilion Refurbishment, The Old Library Community Garden and The Droitwich Spa Pavilion.

Tonia Enderbury, head of services at Droitwich’s Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), said her team would like £4,650 to spruce up its disused community garden.

She said: “We plan to develop the garden and to put seating in it. We get a lot of complaints over the years about how messy and ill-maintained the land is. It is not a huge area.

“It is a community building and a lot of the groups that use the building benefit from it. Even if it is just a nice area for them to go and sit. A lot of people want to be involved. It is going to enhance the building.”

Meanwhile, Fortis Living has requested £33,553.36 to transform scrubland on Shepherd’s Hill into a children’s playground.

Droitwich (St Peter’s Fields) Association has asked for £50,000 to help fund refurbishment work at the existing St Peter’s Fields club house in St Peter’s Church Lane.

King George V Sports Community Interest Company has requested as much money as possible to revitalise the disused pavilion at the King George V playing fields.

Finally, Droitwich Rugby Football Club has asked for £37,201 to buy new floodlighting.

Droitwich Town Council is still considering the bids and gauging public opinion before submitting its recommendation of who should receive the money to Wychavon District Council.

The District Council will then make the final decision by around March 2016.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting on Monday, December 7 at 6.15pm, in St Richard's House, Victoria Square, Droitwich.
