IT is hoped a sporting celebrity such as a Worcester Warriors or Worcestershire County Cricket Club player will open a community fun day in Worcester.
Parish councillors at St Peter's Parish Council, which runs the popular St Peter's Festival, expressed the aim at a meeting on Monday (November 30).
Councillor Brenda Wheeler, who leads on organising the festival, said: "Plans are moving forward positively for 2016.
"Everybody is doing their bit and I have been offered lots of assistance.
"We are hoping to get a rugby player or cricket player to open the event.
"We're also desperate to find someone to do the barbecue."
