STAFF from Worcester-based Sanctuary Group will be helping to support abandoned and stray animals in 2016 as they raise funds for the Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter.

Employees from the housing and care provider have picked the local shelter as their charity of the year, which will benefit from donations collected through a range of fundraising activities.

The new partnership was launched at Sanctuary’s offices in Castle Street when staff were given an opportunity to hear from the charity and to meet some of the animals cared for at the Malvern-based shelter.

Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter is currently home to about 25 dogs and 12 cats and has recently launched a rehoming service for battery hens.

With a purpose-built kennel block and a recently completed cattery unit, the shelter relies on volunteers and donations to help it provide accommodation, medical treatment and lots of attention and exercise for the animals. The ultimate aim is to rehome the animals and to ensure the new pets become a "happy addition" to their family.

Liz Hallam, trustee and voluntary fundraising manager at the shelter, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be chosen by Sanctuary’s Worcester staff as their charity of the year.

"We look forward to working closely with them by providing lots of opportunities for participation in their employee volunteering scheme and by having lots of fun at a wide range of fundraising events.

“We hope to raise the awareness of the shelter, to continue our work caring for lost, abandoned and unwanted cats and dogs until they are reunited with their owners or the right ‘forever home’ is found, and to develop our site for the future.”

Roy Northcott, national staff council representative at Sanctuary in Worcester, added: “We’re delighted Worcester staff have chosen to support Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter.

"The charity carries out important work across the region and we look forward to providing them with donations which will allow them to do even more for the animals they are supporting.”
