TOURISM could receive a boost in Upton-upon-Severn through an event designed to pull in more visitors and put the town on the map.

The event will take place in the Council Chamber, Memorial Hall, Upton-upon-Severn, on Monday, May 21, at 7pm.

The promotion is part of the Better Welcome programme, a new initiative to help towns develop tourism potential.

It will provide the opportunity for local people, businesses and community groups to meet and share their views and ideas on how tourism can be developed.

These ideas could range from improving the appearance of the town to developing new recreational opportunities on the river Severn.

Malvern Hills District Council leader Serena Croad said: "Upton has the perfect riverside setting for tourism and there is increasing emphasis on the industry as a source of economic growth.

"I hope local people and community groups will take the opportunity to let us know how we can identify and support their ideas and help put them into action."

The event is being organised by Malvern Hills District Council economic development team and Upton Town Partnership.

There will be presentations on the Better Welcome programme and on some of the work already taking place.

There will be four workshops on arts, events and tourism, recreation and the river Severn and improving the welcome and appearance of the town.
