EIGHT classrooms will be built at a county school after planners gave them the go-ahead.

Worcestershire County Council is to build a new two-storey building to house six language labs and two humanities classrooms at Hanley Castle High School in Hanley Castle, near Upton-upon-Severn.

Plans also include a car park for eight cars, converting the existing gymnasium into a replacement music building and a 700 square metre extension of the existing hard play area and tennis courts.

After consultation with local people, there were objections to the plans on the grounds that there would not be enough parking and fears that the plans do not indicate sound-proofing of the new music room.

Malvern Hills District Council also objected to the plans, considering that the height of the proposed eight-classroom block would be too dominant and would have an overbearing impact of the residents of Lanes End.

However, Worcestershire County Council's planning and regulatory committee approved the plans on Tuesday.
