A TERRIFIED blind dog that was left tied to a fence in torrential rain now needs a loving home.

Collie rottweiler cross Rocky was abandoned in the pouring rain and wind on Sunday evening by his owners who said they could not look after him any more because they were moving house.

The owner also abandoned a cat at the same time. Both were rescued by Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue within an hour and a half of them being abandoned.

Charity founder Carol Smith said they received a call from the owners earlier that afternoon demanding that the rescue centre take the animals immediately.

She added: "We explained it wasn't possible to take them straight away but we would arrange for them to come in on the Monday.

"Later on, we received a call to say a dog had been found tied to railings near Leominster. The poor dog, who is totally blind, was sodden and terrified. Rocky is in kennels at present. He is very sad and doesn't understand what is happening. He is now urgently seeking a new loving home."

He is described by staff as a lovely dog who loves people but nervous because of his blindness and not suitable for families with small children.

He is four years old, the size of a small collie and can live with cats.

The cat, which has been christened Sooty, is also looking for a new home.

Mrs Smith said: "Although we understand people's circumstances change and there are reasons why their animals have to be rehomed, we urge owners to make proper provision for their pets and not just abandon them.

Anyone wishing to offer Rocky a home should phone Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue on 01885 482967 or 01981 540009.
