PLANS to close a public-funded nursery in Malvern have been called in to question by councillors.
Worcestershire County Council's overview and scrutiny committee is to look into the council's decision to stop maintaining a nursery at Malvern Hills Primary School.
The council's cabinet took the decision in April to stop funding the nursery classes as only three children were expected to turn up in September when 26 places are available. A public notice was published on Friday, May 4, outlining the intentions to cease maintenance at the end of the summer term.
However, eight councillors have since requested the matter be "called in" for further deliberation. The public notice has been withdrawn and the scrutiny committee will look again at the decision at its meeting on Tuesday, May 22.
The decision was called in by councillors Sue Askin, Tom Bean, Jo Hodges, Penelope Morgan, Liz Tucker, Jeremy Webb and Tom Wells.
