A VISIT to Webbs garden centre turned into a surprise birthday treat for 70-year-old Gwen Averill.
Mrs Averill of Kempsey, near Worcester, was delighted by the surprise, which was organised by her daughter Christine Hyde, who lives in Canada.
Staff at the garden centre at Wychbold, near Droitwich, were only too happy to help as Mrs Averill's birthday coincided with the family firm's own 70th anniversary celebrations.
They arranged a special birthday cake for Mrs Averill and a personal tour of the Webbs 70 years at Wychbold exhibition with senior manager and curator David Lowe.
Daughter Mrs Hyde lived with her husband Nigel in Worcester until moving to Canada 27 years ago. Mrs Hyde and her sister Dee Bowyer had taken their mum to Webbs to buy her a tree as a birthday present.
Executive chairman Ed Webb said: "Mrs Averill is a loyal customer and we were pleased to make her birthday so special."
