THE May meeting was full and varied, with a majority of members voting to support the resolution to urge the government to stop the closure of community hospitals.
The 2006 white paper promised a glowing future for these which appears to conflict with reality - many community hospitals having closed or are under threat of closure or significant loss of service. Although we are fortunate enough to have a new community hospital in Pershore, it was considered important to support the campaign.
Guest speaker this month was former veterinary nurse Sheila Tremellen, deservedly awarded an MBE for her work with unwanted or abused puppies.
In 16 years, she has rescued and reared hundreds, giving 24-hour nursing, patience and love to these vulnerable animals.
We heard heart-rending stories of puppies kicked, starved and abandoned before reaching Sheila for treatment, training and rehoming, but she also brought with her two living success stories - happy, healthy and confident dogs.
The dogs were rewarded for good behaviour with pieces of apple tart, and were not the only ones to enjoy our Pudding Club, with tastings of 14 delicious desserts made by members.
Our next meeting is on June 8, at 7.30pm in Inkberrow Village Hall. Visitors are welcome.
