A FERNHILL Heath man was banned for drink driving after he drove to his girlfriend's bedside following her miscarriage.
Jamie Curnock, aged 18, of Eastfield Close, had been drinking in a pub in the village when he got a text from his girlfriend telling him the sad news.
He had already had two pints but, as he was parked at the pub, opted to drive to Worcestershire Royal Hospital to see his girlfriend but was stopped on Newtown Road by police on Sunday, May 6.
A breath test revealed he had 57mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath - the legal limit is 35mcg.
Mr Curnock admitted drink- driving when he appeared before Worcester Magistrates yesterday.
He told the court: "My girlfriend was very upset and wanted me there. I'm sorry for doing it. I was going to leave the car in the car park and walk home but then I got the text message from my partner."
Deputy district judge Ian Strongman fined him £150 for driving while over the limit, ordered him to pay £60 court costs and banned him for driving for a year.
The court clerk suggested that he may be able to cycle to his place of work in Droitwich although he told the court he did not have a bike. He had given it to a friend.
