MEMBERS of a support group for people living with ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) in Worcestershire are celebrating after they were given money to ensure they will be able to continue their meetings across the county.

The Worcestershire ME Support Group has been given £500 from the Make a Difference campaign - a joint venture between Worcester Round Table volunteers and the Worcester News - which will cover the cost of running meetings at Worcester, Droitwich, Malvern, Kidderminster and Bromsgrove.

ME - also known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) or post viral fatigue syndrome (PVFS) - is a disabling condition that causes muscle fatigue and can leave some people bed-bound.

There is no cure for the condition which affects about 240,000 people in the UK.

Co-ordinator Jill Pigott said: "We spend over that amount every year at our five locations. Everybody is over the moon. It is always useful to get some money. That will definitely help."

She said about 100 people contact the group every year asking for information while many turn up to the monthly meetings in their area.

As a result, Mrs Pigott said the group offers a valuable service to those in need.

"We share different experiences and support one another," she said.

"We tell people where they can get certain help and we tell them who to contact for up-to-date information."

Mrs Pigott said the group regularly organises speakers and also offers various complimentary therapies including acupuncture and homeopathy.

"We just help people to manage their lives," she said, but is looking for more people to help the group out.
