A WORCESTER-based national cancer charity is holding an open evening for people to find out how they can help boost its coffers.
Leukaemia CARE is appealing to anyone who would like to find out how they can help raise money to attend the event at their headquarters at 1 Birch Court, Blackpole East, on Tuesday, May 22, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
Marketing and fund-raising manager Patricia Head said: "Anyone who raises money for us can be assured that they are helping to provide a service that is extremely valuable to patients, their families, friends and carers when they are going through a difficult time. When they are feeling lonely or anxious and just want a friendly, comforting voice to give them support or encouragement, all they need to do is call our CARE Line on 0800 1696680.
"This service is unique among cancer charities in Europe and is only possible because of the generosity of our fund-raisers and volunteers, particularly as Leukaemia CARE doesn't receive any NHS, government or lottery funding."
She said: "Our open evening includes a welcome with drinks and light refreshments, a couple of short presentations on fund-raising and talks about the many different ways you can get involved in fundraising. The talks will cover topics such as organising events at home, in the work place or at school/college, for example, open garden days, dress down/up days, balloon races, and many more exciting activities. Fund-raising offers a great way of making new friends and having fun while doing something positive and rewarding, so if you have a few hours to spare you might be able to help. We'd love you to come along."
If you would like to attend the open evening please call Ms Head or any member of the fund-raising team, on 01905 755977 to confirm before Friday, May 18. Alternatively, you can e-mail patricia.head @leukaemiacare.org.uk.
If you can't make that date, but are still interested in fund-raising, please contact the fund-raising team, as above, and they will be happy to provide you with all the information you need.
