ROADS in Worcestershire are to be made safer after the Government handed County Hall a £284,000 grant.
The money was awarded as part of £5.5m of grants given out by the road safety partnership grant scheme yesterday.
It will be spent on improving roads in the Oldington and Foley Park area of Kidderminster, as well as initiatives to improve the driving skills of younger motorists and other hard to reach groups.
Coun Derek Prodger, cabinet member for the environment, said: "What a fantastic prize for Worcestershire, when budgets are tight, as mine is, any extra money is a bonus. It's wonderful news for the whole county and will allow us to make roads safer for everyone."
The money has been handed out to 25 local authorities to allow them to take whatever measures are necessary to improve road safety.
