SUPPORTERS of the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme came to Leigh and Bransford Village Hall to listen to excellent series of talks given by local experts in crime prevention.
The evening was introduced by the local co-ordinator Paul Leopold, who emphasised the importance of crime awareness and explained that the number of local policemen has dropped from 150 in past times to two officers patrolling an area of 30 square miles.
The local community support officer Luke Papps spoke about his role in some detail. He pointed out that as he is not burdened by too much paperwork, he is able to put all his energies into important tasks such as supporting the victims of crime and giving advice about security and alarms.
Jenny Lawrence introduced herself as the community safety officer and explained her role.
Sgt Sarah Goodman also spoke about her responsibility for the 11 community support officers who operate in an area which stretches from the Gloucester to the Shropshire borders.
The evening provided much practical help and advice and was very well received by those who attended.
