MATHEMATICALLY-minded pupils have represented their Worcester school at the regional final of a special team challenge.
Students from the Kings School took part in the regional final of the Mathematics team challenge held at Wycliffe College.
After a tie with the Royal Grammar School for first place last year, and with Pate's Grammar in 2004, the team were eager to build on past successes.
After their first three rounds, King's were in the lead. The final relay round was a closely fought contest, with RGS pulling back some points and eventually the top five teams were announced because the result was so close.
In fourth was RGS with 173 points, third place had 174 and King's finished second on 183, beaten by Cheltenham College by five points.
A school spokesman said: "The team put in a fantastic performance, getting virtually full marks on each of the first two rounds and narrowly missing out on the top slot.
"There is still a chance they may qualify for the national final as a best-placed second team. All the hard work and training certainly paid off."
